Women in our community

CALEB Development and Training Association Levurn Jacobs(L) and Cheryl Farao(R)

Levurn Jacobs “I am a community development worker. Women in our community fulfil a very important role they make sure that they play a supportive role to women who are victims of Gender Based Violence. They women provide shelter and food to abused children. Women empower themselves to become stronger and address Gender Based Violence. “

“Over the years I have seen women. Women took up leadership roles in organizations and churches.  A few women started a women’s group and have regular discussion about issues affecting them. CALEB work closely with a CBO in Jamestown USIKO youth development and we work together on life skills for the youth and entrepreneurial skills for women. After so many years’ women are still at the receiving end of discrimination. Women still are seen as the inferior one and there is still a lot of work to do. There are many women who are in abusive relationships. “

Women need to be empowered to become entrepreneurs.

Cheryl Farao “I am passionate about addressing women’s issues and thru my own journey of development and liberation I am driven to create spaces for women to become transformational leaders. Through our community interventions I have seen women empowered which opened new doors for them to thrive and shine. Women / young girls should be encouraged to follow their dreams, make informed choices about healthy relationships and their own bodies. Addressing issues of gender-based violence is part of who I am, I believe I am my sisters’ keeper and therefore don’t hold back in protecting the rights of women at home, work and in the broader community. We need women to take the hands of other women to share knowledge and wisdom – to be wind beneath each other’s wing. “

I have a responsibility to make sure that the next generation of women are strong, passionate and enablers to bring about change wherever we are.”
